First a recap: The Icons rest on what is called the background of your desktop. The
background is actually the top of the desk.
The Task Bar is the front of the desk where all the drawers would be, and the
background is where you place things on top of the desk.

Lets say we bend the desk top so that the task bar is the front of the desk, and the
backgroud is tilted back... Then we begin to see the desk top as it would be, if it were a
physical desk..
Notice too, that start menu begins to look like a drawer on the front of the desk.

Now Look at the desk top. It looks ready to place things on it, just like a
physical desk. So lets inlarge the icons that are already there.
Remember that Icons are picture stories. So when we enlarge these pictures, we
should be able to tell what they are by their picture. Just like they were physically on
the desk.

Here we are. Now all the Icons are full size, and we can see the computer, file
folder, and trashcan on top of the desk. Okay, so the trashcan should go on the
floor, but hopefully you get a better idea of what a desk top is from this picture.
The icon not listed above, is called Internet Explorer. Newer systems will be
getting an icon similar to this one. It is what links you to the world wide web.
So it might represent a telephone. |
