Maintenance & Troubleshooting

I can’t seem to connect to the Internet.  My system isn’t dialing

If you are not getting a Connect dialog box, try pressing the Home or Refresh button on the Internet Tool bar.  If this does not work, try shutting down the system and restarting the computer.  Also check to make sure you are typing in the user name and password correctly.  Watch that your cap lock key is not on when you type in the password.  If none of these things seem to work also check the phone to make sure you are getting a dial tone.  And make sure that the phone line is connected into the back of your computer.

If you have call waiting, contact your phone company to know which code is needed to disenable it.  And also check to make sure there is not another phone off the hook.  Remember that if you only have one phone line you cannot be browsing the Internet and talking to someone on the phone at the same time.Click here to return to Questions

My Internet Connection seems slow.  Why is that?

There are several reasons for a slow Internet connection.  One thing that can be done, is to empty your Temporary Internet Files & History.  For every time you go onto the Internet everything you see pictures, text, etc. is all being sent to your computer.  These files are called Temporary Internet files (or Cache).  They need to be emptied at least once a week, if not more often.   The history folder also keeps track of where you have been.  Internet History needs to be cleared out ever so often as well.  If you are using Bookmarks or Favorites, know that these are not the same thing as History.  So you will not loose any of your Bookmarks or Favorites if you empty your History.Click here to return to Questions
