In any contest between power and patience, bet on patience. - W.B. Prescott I have such a pain in my neck! And chances are, you might too. My pain comes from sitting at the computer for too many hours per day. And this month I thought I would share some ergonomic tips for better health while computing. The following list comes from one of my favorite writers, Deb Shinder and associates. You can read the entire article at: http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/tr/downloads/home/it_health.pdf Where are your feet? They should be planted firmly on the floor. If not, adjust the chair or find a footrest. Where are your arms? They should be parallel to the floor with the wrists and elbows in a neutral position or angled down. If not, raise the chair or lower the keyboard. Where is the monitor? Proper placement is 18-24 from the eyes. If you can't see it at that distance, adjust the resolution. How high is the monitor? The top of the viewable screen should be at eye level. Adjust accordingly. Are you treating your mouse nice? Your mouse should be kept close to your body and the grip should be relaxed. Dont' choke the pet! What about your wrists? A wrist rest is for resting. If you are typing your wrists should be up. Stand up and move! Deb suggests you hunt for chocolate (which accounts for one of the reasons she is one of my favorite writers). But more important, movement promotes good health and prevents blood clots. To happier computing, ~Janet |
